...electrocrunk boom bap?
So I was going to e-mail a bunch of people about an interesting band, but figured this is probably way more efficient.
Last night we were watching what appeared to be a local sketch comedy/variety show produced on a cable access budget (SUN TV's fare at around 10 p.m. on a Saturday night). Interspersed between the sketches were occasional music performances; one by a DJ and another by a Montreal duo called Thunderheist.
CBC's dubbed them 'electrocrunk boom bap,' and I suppose that's as good a description as any. Really dirty retro-sounding but edgy synthesizers with some rapped/sung female vocals. It's really saucy, fun music. The track they played on the show ('LBG') is up in demo form on their MySpace. While there, I'd also recommend 'suenos dulces,' a song that borrows heavily from the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams.'
They don't appear to be signed yet, but they playing some live Vice Records features, so perhaps it's only a matter of time? They would definitely be at home with the electronic artists on this roster.
All in all, really fun music. Can't wait for a proper full-length!
